Funds Distribution

Funds Distribution

Given the nature and age of our organisation, we imagine that over time we will run several granting rounds every year, with different criteria and grant amounts from endowments. In these instances, the donor will set the requirements of the distribution, with our support.

To ensure our Directors apply funds to solely charitable purposes consistent with charity law in England and Wales, all recipients of money will be required to sign a gift agreement confirming the activity is of charitable purposes that are consistent with charity laws in England and Wales.

This is also one of the primary reasons that we established an administrative arrangement with the Christchurch Foundation in NZ. It is their role to assist us with due diligence and reporting to ensure we meet our legal requirements.  Given the physical distance between our Directors and where the funds will be used, we felt it necessary to establish this relationship and resource on the ground in Christchurch, NZ.

Follow-up reporting will also vary from one fund to the next depending on the requests of the donor.  At a bare minimum we would require receipts, where applicable, and a written report outlining the outcomes derived from the funding.

We are looking to establish a digital portal to receive grant applications, facilitate decision making and create reports.  This is another service that will be administered by our sister organisation in New Zealand.  The NZ entity will also conduct any site visits that may be required on our behalf.

Impact Investment

Financial support from the “UK Loves CHC” Fund will be assessed with the support of independent subject-matter experts who, following a thorough due-diligence process, will make funding recommendations to our Directors for how the money is best used, in line with our Vital Signs research.

If a community group or a social enterprise is looking for capital to achieve change, they can pitch to us for an ‘impact investment’ partnership at any time. Regardless of the financial mechanism, we will actively work to realise our shared goals of creating ‘A Better Christchurch For Everyone, Forever’.

The following criteria will apply.

  • The charitable purpose responds to a clear need in greater Ōtautahi Christchurch, NZ.
  • Be inspirational – the outcomes are visible and inspire greater community generosity.
  • Be transformational – the outcomes disrupt the status quo to catalyse and accelerate much needed change.
  • Demonstrates leadership – organisations have a track record and the organisational capacity to deliver the outcomes at governance, management, and initiative levels.
  • Be scalable and sustainable – the outcomes have the potential to be delivered across the wider city, and possibly nationally with other players, beyond the time that funding ceases.
  • It is anticipated that initiatives will be in some way new or innovative. We also actively encourage collaboration across two or more organisations.
