VITAL
SIGNS

Vital Signs is a snapshot of life in Greater Christchurch: how we are feeling, what we are doing and what's important to us. This research was undertaken in 2019 using data and information collected by Truwind (formerly Research First), a Christchurch-based research agency.
It measures how well we're doing on several key indicators including health, prosperity, our sense of community, and how well we take care of our environment. It is a tool used to understand the community's perceptions of the place where they live.
Community Foundations around the world use this framework to inform our thinking, to assist our donors and partners in making informed philanthropic decisions, and to benchmark against.
We hope this report will help charities, other foundations, not-for-profit organisations, policy advisors and our local communities to identify where we can make the most difference. As you read it, we also hope it will inspire you to consider how you can make your own personal contribution to our wonderful region.

A big part of our plans at The Christchurch Foundation has always been to encourage research-based philanthropy. We wanted to measure the wellbeing of the community and identify significant trends that we could use to understand how we can have the most meaningful impact in our region. We were able to fund this project predominantly through the generous support of a UK-based donor. Costs of such projects can be expensive, which is why we were so grateful for this benefactor’s generous gift. With this knowledge we can ensure we know where we will make the most effective difference in the greater ÅŒtautahi region.
