Barbara* is not the kind of person who seeks attention. At 85, she’s lived a full life of teaching, mentoring, and quietly supporting others in her community. Her nephew Owen* says it best:

“Barbara has always been quietly generous. She’s thoughtful, progressive, and always thinking about how to help others – even after she’s gone.”

That’s why Barbara has chosen to leave a gift in her will to the Christchurch Foundation’s Discretionary Fund.

Having lived in Christchurch most of her life, Barbara wanted to give something back to the city that gave her so much. After careful planning and advice, she decided the best way was through a flexible fund that could support future needs - even the ones we can’t yet imagine.

The Discretionary Fund allows the Foundation to respond quickly to emergencies, support new ideas, and help where the need is greatest. For Barbara, it was the perfect way to leave a lasting legacy, without fuss or fanfare.

“I trust the Foundation to use the money where it’s needed most,” she says. “Christchurch has been good to me — this is my way of paying it forward.”
